HDR and Mast Photo Editing Class

One more reminder that my HDR and Master Photo Editing Class will be taking place this weekend on January 23, 2010 at the Hampton Inn Harvest Room in Hendersonville, North Carolina. There are only a few seats remaining, as the response to this class has been extremely strong. In addition to learning the secrets of HDR photography for natural-looking results, you will receive a discount code (25 percent discount) for the purchase of PhotoMatix software, the HDR software used in this class. We will also look at other High Dynamic Range techniques such as Exposure Blending and using Luminosity Masks. The Luminosity Mask Actions are offered free to the attendees.
More information, as well as how to register, click here.

Raindrops, raindrops & flowers of course!
One of our members asked about photographing raindrops, so I here are some tips and a neat little video that I found describing how to not only photograph them, but how to come up with create backgrounds for your picture too, enjoy!
You’ll need …
- A tripod or Gorillapod
- Macro Lens (or other macro setup)
- A Plamp or similar device
- Rainy day OR a spray bottle
- Flowers
- PATIENCE!
Some other things to remember …
- Shoot on a windless day
- Find raindrop and compose your image
- Focus on the image in the center of the raindrop
- Flower that is in the shade OR us a diffuser
- Open up your aperture
- Find general position w/ fingers and then replace with flower
- Making your own background! *This is pretty neat

You want action?
Well check out this post from our friends at Manchester State Forest:
Over the next two weekends we will have quite a bit of traffic in the area in preparation for the upcoming dirtbike races. On January 24th, 2010 there will be the Burnt Gin Hare Scramble.
Then on January 31st, 2010 will be the 41st Annual Sumter Enduro.
Both races bring people in from a variety of places. There will be trail crossings on some county and state forest roads.
*Please use caution if driving through.

Join us for our first meeting of the new year next Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the community meeting room of Sumter Mall.
I hope that you and your family had a safe and happy holiday season. I also hope that Santa was good and brought you lots of new photography gear. With that being said make sure to bring your new toys and share what you got, we’d like to see ’cause we might want one too! =)
We have a great meeting planned this month. We’re going to go over some pointers of taking better pictures along some techniques to use when out in the field (taken from a new book I picked up). We are also going to talk about the coming year and projects we want to accomplish. And last but not least we’ll get to meet those new folks that say there on the way to learn how to use their new cameras.I can’t wait to see all your smiling faces on the 14th!
Don’t forget your dues!
Don’t forget to bring your dues to the January meeting. Dues are $25 for individuals, $40 for families and FREE for those students in K-12.
Show ‘em off why don’t you!
Make sure to bring your photos for the (a) the Photo of the Month and (b) Assignment of the Month contests. This month’s assignment/theme is LIGHT.
[NOTE: Pictures should be an 8×10 image, also we would like to change out the “Wall @ the Mall” so make sure to get your pictures to Renee Shelton at the end of the meeting to be included in the next change out.
