Art Show Rules

  • Only original works by the entering artist will be accepted. Any copy of the works of another artist, or of a picture or photograph, which has appeared in print, and uses its composition or essential art elements, is not considered original. No work from kits, or molds will be accepted.

  • All Pieces entered in Adult classes must be framed and ready for hanging. (i.e., must have wire securely attached by screw eyes.) Artwork with saw tooth hangers, string, or any other hangers will not be accepted.

  • Entries in Youth classes may be framed, but it is not required. If art is framed, there should be a hanger on the back. Hangers are no longer required on the back of unframed youth artwork. Unframed two-dimensional work must be securely mounted on poster paper or heavy construction paper, preferably black (white or other colors will still be accepted). An ADULT IDENTIFICATION CARD (click here) or YOUTH IDENTIFICATION CARD (click here) must be attached to the lower right hand corner. Identification cards and Registration forms can be obtained on the web site. No other cards may be attached to the front of youth artwork.

  • All work must be completed in the last two years and not previously entered. Each adult artist may enter two pieces per category. All sculpture must be assembled and ready for display. Adult photography must have an image size of 8 X 10 or larger. There is no maximum size limit.

  • Generally, the election between professional and amateur status will be left to the discretion of the exhibitor. An individual that holds a degree in art or teaches art should exhibit as a professional. However, the occasional sale of a work of art or the informal tutelage of another should not justify exhibiting as a professional.

  • Each artist must submit a REGISTRATION FORM (click here). Registration forms (adult and youth) can be obtained on the fair website www.sumterfair.com or by contacting the superintendent of the Art Show. The deadline for submission of individual entry forms is Noon September 25th, 2008.

  • All youth entries should be accompanied by a signed Sumter Co. Fair Art Show PARENTAL PERMISSION SLIP (click here). The permission slips can be obtained on the Fair web site.
  • Under no circumstances can artwork leave the exhibit prior to pick-up time on Sunday, October 5th, 2008.
